A collaboration between three culinary-minded friends results in this causal yet upper crust eatery on the city’s Janiculum Hill neighborhood that marries together the Italian cuisines of the Marche, Calabria and Sicilian regions. Having previously operated the Il Bacaro restaurant, Antico Arco is located opposite of Porta Pancrazio in a two-story brick and stucco street front with brick lined interior dining room with wine bar. Ebonized hardwood floors and modern art offset the more formal feel of the white tablecloths and high-back chairs in a setting popular with young and professional Rome foodies.

The Food

Incorporating the growing selection of locally sourced produce in Rome, the restaurant serves a seasonal menu of regional cuisine often presented tapas style. Delicate appetizers include seafood specialties like tuna tartare or housemade proscuitto or hot pizza with mortadella sausage. Middle and main course mix hearty stuffed or topped pastas with slow cooked meats or tripe "alla romana" in rich sauces like signature Amatriciana sauce, an emblem of Roman cooking prepared with smoked bacon from the Marche-region.

Last Word

Tapas style eatery and wine bar lures Rome foodies for casual, late dinners in the city.
